OUTSOURCE is a site-specific, participatory project developed as part of Draussenstadt at the Uferhallen in Berlin.

Conceived as a platform for exchange, the project introduces a stage-like structure on the forecourt of the site, designed as a meeting point for artists, tenants, and the local community. The sculptural podium, titled Splash (2021), takes the form of an oversized, comic-like paint stain—translating gestures of urban marking, graffiti, and subcultural expression into an architectural setting.

Over the course of the program, invited artists engage with the structure through a series of temporary sculptural interventions, activating the space through dialogue with the site’s architecture and its social context. The project aims to foster accessibility and exchange, opening up artistic practices to broader audiences while encouraging conversations around the future of the Uferhallen and its surrounding neighborhood.

Balancing playfulness and critique, Splash functions both as a stage and a symbol—reflecting on urban transformation, cultural production, and forms of resistance within a city shaped by economic pressures and collective agency.

OUTSOURCE ist ein ortsspezifisches, partizipatives Projekt, das im Rahmen von Draussenstadt auf dem Gelände der Uferhallen in Berlin entwickelt wurde.

Als Plattform für Austausch konzipiert, etabliert das Projekt eine bühnenartige Struktur auf dem Vorplatz des Areals, die als Treffpunkt für Künstler:innen, Mieter:innen und die lokale Gemeinschaft dient. Das skulpturale Podium mit dem Titel Splash (2021) nimmt die Form eines überdimensionierten, comicartigen Farbflecks an und übersetzt Gesten urbaner Markierung, Graffiti und subkulturellen Ausdrucks in ein architektonisches Setting.

Im Verlauf des Programms setzen sich eingeladene Künstler:innen in einer Reihe temporärer skulpturaler Interventionen mit der Struktur auseinander und aktivieren den Raum im Dialog mit der Architektur des Ortes sowie seinem sozialen Kontext. Ziel des Projekts ist es, Zugänglichkeit und Austausch zu fördern, künstlerische Praktiken für ein breiteres Publikum zu öffnen und zugleich Gespräche über die Zukunft der Uferhallen und ihrer Nachbarschaft anzuregen.

Zwischen Verspieltheit und Kritik balancierend fungiert Splash sowohl als Bühne als auch als Symbol und reflektiert urbane Transformation, kulturelle Produktion sowie Formen des Widerstands in einer Stadt, die von ökonomischem Druck und kollektiver Handlungsfähigkeit geprägt ist.
